Safety guidance

To keep our community safe, we all have a role to play. It is our social responsibility to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

On campus

We're continuing to take precautions on campus:

  • Regular cleaning will continue, including high touchpoint areas
  • Hand sanitiser stations will remain across campus
  • Some perspex screens and signage will remain in place on campus where beneficial.

We understand that some people will feel more comfortable wearing face coverings and that others will not want to, please be respectful of everyone’s choice to wear a face covering.

At home and in the community

Government guidelines on coronavirus

  • The government suggests you continue to wear a face covering in crowded and indoor spaces where you may come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
  • Let fresh air in if meeting indoors, or meet outside.

Students: Respect our code of conduct. Where necessary, the University will take action, including potential disciplinary action to protect the city-wide and University communities.

What to do if you feel unwell

While you’re no longer required to self-isolate if you have COVID-19, you should try to stay away from others if you have symptoms or if you test positive.

Please continue to stay at home if you feel unwell, and do not come to campus. Try to follow this advice until you feel well enough to resume normal activities and you no longer have a high temperature if you had one.

Vaccinations

You should get your vaccination as soon as you are able.

How to book a COVID-19 vaccineNHS England has published a document containing FAQs about student COVID-19 vaccinations in England, including questions about international student vaccinations.

Testing

Free Covid-19 testing has ended for most people.

This means you are not expected to take regular lateral flow Covid-19 tests, or a PCR test if you develop symptoms.

You may still be able to get free lateral flow tests if you have a placement with the NHS or in social care, are going into hospital, or you’re at high risk of getting seriously ill from Covid-19.

If you're undertaking a clinical placement, you may be expected to undertake testing in the same way as NHS staff. Ongoing requirements are currently being confirmed with Health Education England and further information will be provided by your academic department.
