We're working to enhance health quality, patient care and wellbeing for local people through the longstanding relationship between Sheffield's medical teaching, the city's hospital trust and other partner organisations.

South Yorkshire Digital Health Hub

The South Yorkshire Digital Health Hub will use cutting-edge research to develop innovative digital technologies for disease diagnosis and treatment by leveraging smartphone, wearable, and sensor data alongside NHS data to create new clinical tools. Led by University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, the £4 million Hub is supported by EPSRC to tackle healthcare inequalities and transform how patients are treated in South Yorkshire.

Transforming Medical Technology

A major funding boost will help transform the thriving Medical Technology (MedTech) business community in Yorkshire. The £5 million funding will be overseen by the University of Sheffield and University of Leeds, working with civic partners including South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and regional NHS Trusts.

The University’s flagship Healthy Lifespan Institute and its team of 130 world-class researchers work with national, international and regional organisations to apply knowledge and share the outcomes across the UK and globally, and are supporting the creation of a Sheffield Joint Health & Wellbeing Strategy (2019-2024) to help address health inequalities in the region.
