Hossein Farmy scholarship

The Hossein Farmy Scholarship was founded by the late Hossein Farmy, a graduate of the University's former Department of Mining. It is available for students pursuing research related to mining. This includes the geological, engineering, scientific and technological aspects of mining, and the archaeological, economic, historical, legal and social aspects of mining and the mining industry.

Award details

The Hossein Farmy Scholarship covers the cost of the UK tuition fees and provides an annual, tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UK Research Council rate (currently £17,668 for 22/23).

Eligibility

This award is open to UK applicants only.

Awards are tenable for a maximum of 3.5 years FTE, subject to satisfactory progress. 

To be eligible for this award:

  • You should be intending to pursue a course of research related to mining.
  • You should have, or expect to achieve, a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK in an appropriate area of study.
  • You should be registering on your first year of doctoral study with the University.

Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis - applications are assessed on the basis of academic success and qualifications, experience, research background, a clear well-articulated research proposal, the potential impact of the research and a good match with supervisor/ departmental expertise.
