Open research community
Although the uptake of open research practices is increasing, the skills required to make research more open will be new to many researchers, regardless of career stage. To facilitate and support this, the University has several community groups for researchers to get involved with.
Open Scholarship Community Sheffield (OSCS)
The Open Scholarship Community Sheffield (OSCS) is a new initiative launched in September 2023. The vision of OSCS is to be an inclusive, supportive, and active community for researchers at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University to interact, share knowledge, and encourage good working practices such that the values, transparency and culture of Open Research become the norm.
Register to join the Open Scholarship Community Sheffield here. You can view current members of OSCS here.
Questions about the community? Contact the administrators using the webform here for more information.
ReproducibiliTea
ReproducibiliTea is an award-winning journal club initiative aiming to build a community of people interested in open research. Topics vary from session to session, no specialist knowledge is required and all staff and students are welcome.

Monthly open research drop-ins
These are held on campus on the first Tuesday of every month, and provide an opportunity to get together to chat with colleagues who are also interested in open research. Details can be found in the Sheffield research practice calendar (see below).
Open Research Working Group (ORWG)
The Open Research Working Group meets to discuss and make progress on issues surrounding open research at the University. It is open to all staff and students and is part of the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN). For updates on the ORWG meetings and other open research info, please join the ORWG Google Group and visit the ORWG Google Site.
Sheffield research practice calendar
To help researchers keep track of events relating to open research, we created the Research Improvement Events Calendar. This includes internal and external, online, in-person and hybrid events and it can be added to your own calendar.
To have an event added to the calendar, please contact Adam Partridge (a.partridge@sheffield.ac.uk).
