Support Worker Service
An outline of the types of support workers available to disabled students, and who to contact.

Your Disability Adviser or Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) assessor may recommend you have a support worker, arranged by our Support Worker Service.
Support workers can include:
- Library Support Assistants to support you with accessing library materials.
- Practical Support Assistants to provide mobility support around campus and assignment support.
- Lab/workshop support workers to provide individual support in specialist laboratory settings to ensure you’re able to perform experiments safely and to the best of your abilities.
- Exam Support Workers to act as a scribe, reader, or exam prompt.
- Notetakers to attend and take notes in your taught sessions so you have an accurate record of what’s been covered.
- Specialist Mentors to provide support in one-to-one sessions, providing assistance in developing your organisational skills, managing your workload, and maintaining focus on your academic progress.
- Specialist Study Skills Tutors to increase your competence in learning independently and help you develop skills to cope with study difficulties.
- Sign Language Interpreters to provide British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation of lectures, seminars, practical sessions, etc.
