Since 2012, the Sheffield Confucius Institute has been organising Summer School for local school-age children, exploring Mandarin Chinese language and incorporating school STEM subjects.

Ever wanted to speak in Chinese and write in Chinese characters? Experience Mandarin Chinese language with us and have fun. 

Fun learning and play care for school-age children (aged 5-16) from all language backgrounds during school summer holiday. 

Mandarin Chinese language is NOT a prior requirement. 

This year the language topics include Learning through Play and Literature. The children will showcase songs, stories and two plays- Humpty Dumpty makes friends and a fused play of Liangzhu and Romeo and Juliet.

STEM projects will address the world of Maths, engineering and medicals, plus Artificial Intelligence. The end of the Summer School Show will see children’s presentations about their understanding of STEM. 

Children will be arranged into different groups according to their ages and languages.

Staff teachers are DBS checked and are already working at the Confucius Institute.

Time: 08:45-15:30, Monday to Friday, 24th to 28th July 2023

Venue: DB13 and other rooms for different age groups, Bartolome House, School of Law, Winter Street, S3 7ND

* Please bring lunch for your child. You can also take your child away for lunch at 11:50-1:10pm.

* Drinks, fruit and biscuits will be provided during break time.

Held online, 26 July - 6 Aug 2021, Monday to Friday, 1h/day, 10 days

Opened to all school-age children including English-speakers.
Chinese-speakers , 11:15am - 12:15pm
English-speakers ,  1:30pm - 2:30pm

Activities included Chinese Language Tasters and Study Skills; Chinese Songs and Vocal Training; Chinese Brush Painting and Watercolour.

Summer Care, Fun, Inspired and Aiming Higher!

Let’s talking in Chinese; exploring Chinese Characters; retelling stories; singing songs; playing games and engaging STEM activities. Open to all aged 5-16.

Being able to speak Mandarin is NOT a prior requirement.
Two sessions a day, 1h/session, Monday-Friday, 3 - 15 August 2020.

Open three groups depending on the number of children registered and their ages.
Group 1, for children at KS1, open at 9am and 1pm;
Group 2, for children at KS2, open at 10:15am and 2:15pm;
Group 3, for children at secondary schools and above, open at 11:30am and 3:30pm.

Real-time classrooms involve presentations, demonstrations, interactions and home assignments.
Teachers: experienced, friendly, empathetic and passionate.
Children: stimulated, engaged and peer-collaborated. Maximum 15 children/class.
Parents: ensured online safety at home and encouraged to join in themselves.
