My lecturers' experience and passion for business made my experience at the Management School exciting and insightful
I was particularly interested in the wide range of business modules that the School offered
I decided to study at Sheffield University Management School as I was particularly drawn to the opportunity to have more freedom to select modules I was interested in during my second and third year. This allowed me to choose modules that I had a particular passion for such as HR and employee health and wellbeing.
I was also drawn to the Management School based on the societies they offered
I was part of both the Management Society and Women in Business Society. These were both great ways to socialise with students who had similar interests and passions as myself. I met some of my closest friends whilst studying at Sheffield and my third year Management Society summer ball was a lovely closing chapter to my time studying at Sheffield. It was a great opportunity to get dressed up and spend time with my friends from my course before we moved away and lived much further from each other.
The course gave me an extensive overview of core areas of business
I really enjoyed how wide ranging the Business Management course was and how it gave me an extensive overview of all the core areas of business whilst allowing me to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the areas I was most interested in.
The lecturers were always on hand to help and provide guidance during my studies and were always willing to go the extra mile to support my learning. Their experience and passion for business made my experience at the Management School both exciting and very insightful to set me up for success in my career.
I used the 301 Skills Centre for examples of how to write first class assignments
Their examples allowed me to tailor my own assignments to achieve first class honours. Their essay structure templates always helped me structure my assignment to ensure I provided justifiable arguments and supported my points with accurate and well reasoned case studies. Their tips on Harvard referencing are also great to ensure you don’t lose marks due to silly mistakes on referencing!
The HR module was a great way to gain valuable insights into HR in practice
The theories and examples I learnt in this module have set me up with a great foundation to build upon in a real business setting in my HR graduate role. Having this initial context has been a great stepping stone into pursuing a career in HR.
After graduating, I moved to London to start a graduate scheme in HR at TikTok
I am currently on an HR rotational graduate scheme within the Global Business Solutions organisation at TikTok. During the 18 month graduate scheme, I will complete three six month rotations in: Talent Acquisition, Human Resource Business Partnering, and Learning and Development.
I have just finished my rotation in the Talent Acquisition department where I worked across internal mobility projects, interviewing candidates and ensuring a great candidate experience throughout. The past six months in Talent Acquisition have been both exciting and insightful and I’m looking forward to embarking on my next rotation in the HRBP department.
My advice for future students looking to study in Sheffield
