- Acquired Language Disorders: Analysis and Intervention

This module offers a study of the nature of acquired language disorders, including aphasia, traumatic brain injury and dementia, from a range of analytic perspectives.
- Acquired Speech Disorders: Analysis and Intervention

This module offers a study of the nature of acquired speech disorders: in particular, acquired dysarthria (a motor speech disorder) and acquired dyspraxia (a motor coordination disorder) and their impact on communication.
- Children's Learning

This module presents theories of cognitive development; how these inform our understanding of children’s learning and the development of educational practice; and the interaction of learning and language.
- Communication Diversity & Difficulties

This module allows students to select two or more topics in the field of children’s language and communication impairments for more detailed study.
- Developing An Evidence Base For Practice

This module develops knowledge, understanding and skills for the promotion of evidence-based practice for practitioners in education, health and social welfare contexts.

This module describes children’s development of language and communication, including aspects of social and emotional development, as well as spoken language.
- Literacy: Difficulties & Intervention

This module is designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore how and why individuals struggle to learn to read and write with fluency and confidence.

Students will receive a grounding in methods relevant to the linguistic study of communication disorders.
- Research Methods in Human Communication A

This module will develop students' knowledge, understanding and skills of the range of research methodologies used in human communication sciences, education and health.
- Research Methods in Human Communication B

This module will expand students’ knowledge, understanding and skills of the range of research methodologies used in human communication sciences, education and health.
- Speech Difficulties 1: Nature and Investigation

This module offers a study of the nature and assessment of developmental speech difficulties.
- Speech Difficulties 2: Intervention and Management

This module unit draws on current research into the management of clients with developmental speech difficulties in a range of contexts.
- Spoken and Written Language

This module focuses on the nature of spoken and written language development and difficulties.
Tuition fees
The fee for each 15 credit CPD module in Human Communication Sciences is as follows:
- 2024/25 – home and overseas students – £1,035
Funding your studies
There is NHS funding available to support the continuing professional development of healthcare professionals. We also accept sponsored and self-funding students.

Many of our CPD modules are also part of our PGCert, PGDip and MSc programmes in Human Communication Sciences.
International Merit Scholarships
We offer a generous package of financial support for international students including 75 undergraduate scholarships worth £10,000 towards the annual tuition fee and 125 postgraduate taught scholarships worth £5,000 towards the tuition fee. Applications are now open for existing offer holders.
