Uses and abuses of economics in the debate on universities

Synopsis

This lecture examined the logic underlying the government’s current higher education bill. It concluded that it relies too heavily on naive economic arguments. Economics has an important role to play in analysing the future of universities, but it must not play a preponderant role.
