Barney Goatley

I’m the Student Recruitment Officer for the East and West Midlands, which involves working with schools in these regions to give advice and support to post 16 students who are considering University.

After graduating with a History degree in 2014, I spent three years living in Shanghai where I taught English and organised education camps for students hoping to one day study in the UK. 

My time abroad inspired in me an interest in the East Asia region, particularly as I learned to speak Mandarin, and on my return to the UK, I completed an Masters degree in International Relations and East Asia at The University of Sheffield.

I had such a great experience in Sheffield during my MA that I’m now delighted to work in a role that keeps me connected to both the University and the city. As an advocate of higher education, and Sheffield specifically, I am proud to be part of a team that supports and advises prospective students throughout the recruitment cycle as they pursue a path towards higher education. 

In my spare time, I enjoy watching and playing sport, reading and travelling.
